PRONUNCIATION OF PAST ENDINGS IN REGULAR VERBS

Match the verbs on the left with the pronunciation of its past endings. Check the answers and then listen to the recording to practise saying them.

Rules

a. If a verb itself ends in a /t/ or a /d/ sound, the final -ed is pronounced /id/.

b. If a verb ends in a voiceless consonant sound, the final -ed is pronounced /t/.

c. If a verb ends in a voiced conconant sound or a vowel sound, the final -ed is pronounced /d/.
